monthly obsession: avatar and trailer music

Thu Dec 17, 2009, 7:40 AM
So, the obsession this month is just as the title says. I go through random bouts of fascination with certain things, be it a comic, movie, book series, music, genre, whatever, and it lasts for about a month usually before I tire of it and move onto the next thing. If it's good enough, it sticks around for quite a while longer.

So, this month, Avatar - James Cameron's new flick with the eye catching alien race, the Na'vi - has caught my eye and I've been trolling [link] constantly. The story seems interesting enough. And who cares that the message is going to be overwhelmingly green. Care about the Earth, end of story, yay... I'm going for the special effects. All the toters of the opinion that the blue aliens are unrealistic should think about spending some time suspending reality.

It's the holidays. I know I need a good escape. Pandora seems like a pretty all right place for that.

In addition to Avatar, I've taken on a liking for trailer music. Yes, literally the music used in movie trailers. It's all quite epic and really good for drawing inspiration (at least for This One). If you like big orchestras and choruses and that kind of music in general, check out Immediate Music's album Trailerhead. Special: "Mu Name Is Lincoln" by Steve Jablonsky (the same composer of the sweeping Transformers score) off of the soundtrack to The Island.

Hope you've enjoyed the inside look into the artist over here. Maybe. Maybe not. The lack of comments is not all that provoking around here, but I'll keep submitting just to spam people's Deviations boxes.

Happy holidays.
Expect more fan art.

Thanks! I'm looking forward to seeing more of your stuff, though I'm sad that the Aardvark Scouts are gone. :-(
:iconamandamyers:
lol, I've actually been thinking about doing something with them lately. I've had a few ideas going, it's just a matter of finding the time and equipment.
:iconthinkoz:
Oh, yay! Ha ha, really they're so inventive. I was floored when I first saw them. Reminds me of a a video game or a graphic novel. I'd like to know the story behind it all one day... Heh.
:iconamandamyers:
Aww, what fun would the whole story be? I like to think part of the appeal is from not knowing and having to make it up as you see it.
